| The past few weeks have seen several changes in our lives and our world. Many would like us to believe that this is a sign of the end of the world. I agree only in the sense that this may be the end of the world as we know it. We, as Citizens of the World, have the opportunity to actively work against violence in all of its forms. One day, we may no longer have to see our sons and brothers die in meaningless wars and acts of terrorism. No one can dispute that the fundamental doctrine of EVERY religion is to love your neighbor. Now we must have the courage to live and not just preach the path. My heart goes out to all the victims of violence everywhere, be it New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, or Afghanistan, Rwanda, Israel, Palestine, Columbia, or any of the other places where violence corrupts. We will soon see the day when violence no longer shapes our society, our government, our economy, and our lives. As Mohandas Gandhi once said, "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind." God bless, shalom, and praise be to Allah! |
